Sammy Wilson, the DUP MP for East Antrim, claimed that ministers had either not considered that elements of EU immigration law continue to apply in Northern Ireland, or had “wilfully neglected” this when writing the Safety of Rwanda (Asylum and Immigration) Bill.
He said that his party could not support the Bill in a vote in the Commons, and claimed it could make Northern Ireland a “magnet” for migrants attempting to enter other parts of the UK.
